I think it would be OK for movies to play around with the Groundhog Day effect a bit more often.
Soylent Green (1973)
I didn’t know the future was so … retro. The Computer Space video game, bubble wrap on the sliding door, psychedelic music.
Snape kills Dumbledore.
I only decided to seek out Soylent Green because of the … plot twist; but it turns out that knowing this particular plot twist took quite a bit of wind out of the film’s sails.
With the Harry Potter series, other than knowing about the famous line, I went into it completely blind. The surprise may have been ruined; but it certainly increased the amount of drama for me; because I would tense up every single time Snape and Dumbledore would appear together. When Dumbledore finally died it was almost a relief.
Independence Day (1996)
Wow, Jeff Goldblum and Will Smith! I should have watched this sooner!
Seriously, you have an airplane flying away from an explosion and a dog jumping away from an explosion. Why didn’t I watch this 20 years ago?
Holy cow! Brent Spiner too!
People thought it was silly that they were able to upload a virus from an Apple computer? It’s almost as if everyone forgot that Jeff Goldblum is just that good. If he had wanted to, he probably could have hacked the alien computer with only his mind.
Hot Shots! Part Deux (1993)
I haven’t seen any Rambo movies yet either. I don’t think that mattered much in my enjoyment of this.
I was extremely surprised to see Ryan Stiles. I didn’t recognize him in the first one, so that counted as an extra surprise, after the fact.
I saw Andreas Katsulas’ name in the credits and said, “WHAT?” then found out which character he was and re-watched his scene; once I knew it was him, I was immediately able to hear his voice in…his voice.
Hot Shots! (1991)
Here I go, watching things in the wrong order again. I’ve never seen Top Gun.
I guess I’m a fan of visual effects. I thought I was going to burst a blood vessel, I was laughing so hard during the blood transfusion.
Idiocracy (2006)
The last time I watched this it was a comedy; now it’s a documentary.
Scanners (1981)
Came for the infamous “exploding head scene”, stayed for the, “HOLY CRAP WTF IS GOING ON?!!”
I wonder if we’re at the point yet where kids have no idea what a record store is?
That’s taking Hollywood Hacking to a whole new level…hacking a computer…WITH YOUR MIND!
Blackhat (2015)
Eh, it’s all right. Drags on a bit too long. Suffers from HOLLYWOOD HACKING SYNDROME.
Wagons East (1994)
Watched it for John Candy; but Robert Picardo was in it too, so that’s cool.
The Last Starship (2016)
What…in the frickin’ heck even is this!?
